I lost my notes — what happened?
If your notes are missing in Echo, it’s usually due to how they were saved or which account you’re currently using.
Most common reason: you are in a different account
Echo stores all notes under a specific account.
If you:
Signed in with a different method (Apple, Google, or Microsoft)
Logged out and back in
Switched devices
You may be viewing a different account than the one where your notes were created.
Please check the following:
1. Open Echo → Settings
2. Are you signed in?
3. If yes, which method is shown (Apple / Google / Microsoft)?
It is very important that you are signed in using the exact same method that was originally used when the missing notes were created.
Even if the email address is the same, using a different provider creates a separate account.
For example:
• Sign in with Apple (your@email.com)
• Sign in with Google (your@email.com)
These are two different Echo accounts.
Second common reason: notes were created without an account
If you used Echo without being signed in, your notes were stored in an anonymous account created automatically on your device.
If the app then:
• Logs you out of that anonymous account (for example after a restart, update, or reinstall)
• You manually sign into another account
• You switch devices
👉 The anonymous account is no longer accessible without the associated credentials, and your notes will no longer appear.
This does not mean the notes were deleted — they are still linked to that anonymous account.
However, because you do not have the credentials for that account, it is not possible to log back into it and recover those notes.
This is why we strongly recommend creating an account as soon as possible and making sure you are signed in whenever you record notes.
Third possible reason: “Generate Notes” was not completed
For a recording to be saved as a note, you must tap “Generate Notes” after stopping the recording.
This step uploads and processes the audio, and is what actually creates and stores the note in your account.
If this step is not completed:
• The recording remains in a temporary state
• It is not fully processed or securely stored
• It may be removed if the app is closed, interrupted, or if too much time passes
If the app is interrupted during this process (for example due to a restart, crash, or loss of connection), the upload may fail before completion.
For best results, we recommend:
• Tapping “Generate Notes” as soon as possible after recording
• Keeping the app open while uploading starts
• Using a stable internet connection
What you can check
To help locate your notes:
Open Echo → Settings
Confirm you are signed in
Check which sign-in method is shown (Apple, Google, or Microsoft)
Can my notes be recovered?
If your notes are in another account → yes, once you sign into that account
If they were created without an account and the session is lost → no
If Generate Notes was never completed → no
How to prevent this in the future
To avoid losing notes:
Always stay signed in before recording
Always tap Generate Notes after recording
Use the same sign-in method consistently
